2/ Apollo Bay Beach

  • Description: Apollo Bay Beach is a picturesque stretch of golden sand flanked by rolling hills and the sparkling Southern Ocean. Popular for swimming, sunbathing, and beach-combing. It offers stunning views of the coastline and is a favorite spot for watching the sunset.

3/ Cape Otway Lightstation

  • Description: Perched atop towering sea cliffs, the Cape Otway Lightstation is the oldest surviving lighthouse on mainland Australia. Visitors can tour the historic lighthouse, explore the surrounding heritage precinct, and enjoy panoramic views of the rugged coastline.
  • Activities: Lighthouse tours, heritage walks, whale watching (seasonal).

When we visited the lighthouse we went up the stairs to the top. Where you can go out at the top like the people in the picture. It is a narrow spiral stair case but it is well worth the view you get from the top. The guide explains the history of the lighthouse and the surrounding buildings.

There is also a cafe where you are able to get some light refreshments.

There are a couple of buildings that contain information on video as well as memorabilia from when the Light Station was a busy community.

We stayed for the week at the Big 4 Holiday Park Apollo Bay which was a really nice Caravan Park. Members from my family have also stayed at this park, and it is great for kids. There is a range of different self contained cabins as well as camping and caravan sites.

We ate at the Apollo Bay Fishermen’s Co-op. It is a popular place, as it serves great fish and chips. There are tables out the front, some under cover right beside the harbour and there is a lot of activity.

There fish and chips are really good. We ate here a couple of times. There is a lot of room to sit down and eat your meal.
