Silo art trail QLD is a vibrant tapestry of large-scale murals transforming rural silos into monumental canvases that celebrate local heritage, culture, and storytelling. These towering artworks beautify the landscape and draw visitors into the heart of regional communities, offering a unique blend of art and history.
Further north, Monto’s “Three Moons” silos, completed in July 2020, narrate stories from the town’s past, including the era of gold mining, cattle mustering, and The Dreaming. This installation has positioned Monto as the most northerly point on Australia’s silo art trail
In Toowoomba, a 20-meter-tall silo features the mural “We Remember, Never to Forget,” painted by Indigenous artist Kim Walmsley. Unveiled in December 2024, the artwork pays tribute to the Australian landscape, Indigenous heritage, Toowoomba’s multicultural community, and honors servicemen and veterans. Elements like sunflowers symbolize life and mortality, while the Milky Way and Southern Cross reflect Indigenous dreaming and national solidarity

Moura Tank Art
In the heart of Moura, Queensland, the town’s water tower has been transformed into a striking piece of public art that reflects the community’s identity and natural surroundings. In May 2018, Brisbane artist Sam Wilkinson, known as LEANS, painted one side of the tower with a vivid depiction of a pink galah perched beside a cotton plant, symbolizing Moura’s rich agricultural heritage. The following year, in June 2019, artist Joel Fergie, also known as The Zookeeper, completed the opposite side with a serene portrayal of the nearby Dawson River, capturing the essence of the local landscape .
Standing 18 meters tall, the water tower is situated at the corner of Dawson Highway and Moura Bindaree Road, adjacent to the Miners’ Memorial. Its 360-degree mural has become a cherished landmark, inviting travelers to pause and appreciate the town’s artistic expression and tribute to its environment
Thallon Silo Art
In Thallon, the state’s first silo mural, “The Watering Hole,” was completed in July 2017. The ZooKeeper (Joel Fergie) and Drapl (Travis Venson) painted it. They consulted with the local community when developing the art, and with inspiration from three local photographers.
This expansive piece depicts the Moonie River at sunset, featuring native animals and honoring Thallon’s Indigenous community through the inclusion of a scarred tree. The mural spans four 30-meter-high silos and required approximately 500 liters of paint and 500 spray paint cans to complete .
Wandoan Silo Art
Complementing this is the Wandoan Silo Light Show, an innovative nightly projection that transforms the town’s grain silos into a dynamic canvas. From 7 pm to midnight, the silos illuminate with visuals showcasing regional events, activities, and the works of local photographers, offering visitors a unique experience under the stars
